The Gallery of the Riflemen
The Gallery of the Riflemen is a typical sortie passage of modern military architecture, which allowed soldiers to quickly reach the Falsabraga. The corridor was protected by a double portal and by loopholes manned by riflemen.
The loopholes present a singular detail: each shot had a fixed trajectory, but outside the lines converged into a single opening, with a fan-shaped projection that covered the entire defensive area. Other positions, placed at 90°, completed the protection.
From the end of the 17th century, the area was incorporated into the new environments of the fortress, and today the gallery is underground, although it originally opened directly to the outside.
